My Favorite Way to Repair Hair

As a hairstylist I always hear my clients talk about different products they have tried in hopes it would help repair their damaged hair. A lot of people, however, use products they learned about off TikTok or saw an influencer using and didn’t take into account what the product is actually intended for. Two popular products that are frequently misused: Olaplex and K18.

Don’t get me wrong, these products can be very helpful in strengthening your hair when used properly. In fact, they are commonly found in most salons. But what most people are not taking into account is that both of these product lines contain protein in MOST of their products. Protein is super useful for repairing hair IF the hair is in need of protein. However, if the damaged hair is not in need of more protein, using protein based products can cause buildup & the hair to break even more.

My absolute favorite protein free products that are amazing for repairing the hair is the Botanical Repair line from Aveda. I personally love the entire line, but my absolute favorite product from the line is the Botanical Repair Intensive Strengthening Masque. The masque penetrates right into the hair cortex, which is the middle layer of the hair strand, and adds hydrogen bonds to the hair strands. Hydrogen bonds are one of the three bonds that make up the hair strand.

What I love most about using this product not only on my clients, but on myself as well, is that as soon as you apply it to the hair you can feel an immediate difference in how the hair feels. My best advice to repairing your hair is to get your hands on this product and use it once a week!

And please remember: do your research before using any hair or skin product. If you use products that are not actually needed for your hair/skin they can cause more harm than good. And keep in mind that when your hairstylist is recommending products to you, they are always keeping your hairs best interest in mind.
