Stop buying your haircare at the grocery store…

Hey Y'all, Morgan here from Expressions by Tanya. Do you know there's a difference in product control AND product quality? I'll dive into why it's very important to shop locally at your small business salon, and why buying products online can be misleading.

If you're the kind of person to purchase hair products online; listen up!! This could save your hair's life!

Buying hair products online that are not from a reputable salon/company can sometimes be disguised as 'xyz product' but, in reality, be something completely different than what you think you're purchasing. For example, if buying hairspray online you may (allegedly) be buying a random can with a designer label wrap on the outside, with water on the inside. Most online stores actually don't have the quality control or licensing to sell major brand hair products. That means they can replace ANYTHING in the original bottle and replace it with foreign substances. Most companies/brand name hair products don't realize their products are being bought in bulk to then sell online or to department stores to be sold. For example, have you ever seen Olaplex being sold in other department stores? That's because it's not the real Olaplex

Onto my next point- why would you buy your hair product(s) in the same place you buy meat, milk, eggs, bread, baby food, etc. Kinda weird right? Why not buy FROM your salon I'm sure you visit frequently? Honestly- do you really think what you're paying for at the grocery store is what it says it is? Most grocery stores also do not have the licensing or quality control to sell said products. I've been very experienced in the whole thing- before I was educated I used to buy my hair products at the grocery store because "it was convenient." When I got home to use my (insert name brand) shampoo, it was 97% water and some kind of surfactant (surfactant helps product lather). I didn't pay for that. Would you really wanna buy something that wasn't advertised as said product AND it was replaced with water and whatever else? I don't think so.

Now, if you're buying from reputable companies online such as our trustworthy Aveda- you're A-okay! Please make sure that if you're buying online do your research and be wary of other competitors selling such items.

If you're in the salon just buy it there while you're there. It only makes sense right? Many more times than not, your hair can react to foreign substances in various ways and that's why your hair probably isn't doing what you want it to do - due to where you bought your products. If you've bought your products (and continue to buy them) at your local salon/salon you go to, you deserve a gold star!! Why spend more money on shipping and handling, when you can just buy it straight from your stylist at a small business salon and pay taxes. Then, you can go straight home (not waiting on shipping or delays), play with whatever product(s) and KNOW they're legit!!

Please, just be wary of where and who is selling products. Not everything is what it seems!

Until then, keep educating yourself...hair is always evolving🩷

             -Morgan ✌🏼
