BeCurly Advanced Series & In Shower Care; part 1
Hey ya'll, Morgan here! If you haven't stalked my IG or checked out my lil profile on our website I'll just tell you here. I've had curly hair my whole life, went through the whole straightening phase, killed my curl pattern (several times), damaged my hair to no end; like all the crappy things you can do to your hair. I think we've all been there .... or maybe you're already there! It's ok, that's why I'm here to help! Keep reading below
Listen, having curly hair isn't all that easy as we have different ways we shampoo, what products to use, when to use said products, how to use them... etc. Today I'll be focusing on Aveda's BeCurly Advanced product series and when to use these products. While styling curly/coily hair is important, the foundation of taking care of your curls/coils is actually in the shower.
*Shampoo: I know it's hard if you shampoo every day but honestly, that's stripping your scalp and hair from its natural oils. You should be applying your shampoo to drenched hair. It will suds up easier and help move any dirt or build up down off your scalp and down the drain. If you shampoo every day, I encourage you to try out every other day for your luscious curls/coils. (ps: you will most def have to play around with how your scalp and hair feel for shampooing; it's a fun game)
*Deep Hair Masque!!! You should always apply any kind of cream rinse/conditioner/deep conditioner on the ENDS only. Sometimes the reason your hair can become greasy or oily really fast is because we're putting the conditioner on your scalp. If applied to the roots first, your hair may tend to feel "greasy" or oily. Some people under-produce oil (dry and itchy scalp) and some people over-produce oil (gets greasy fast). It honestly just depends on your genetics and DNA. So don't feel ashamed or embarrassed if you struggle with oily hair!
*Scalp Care is Important!! When your scalp is healthy, your hair will be healthy. Getting regular scalp treatments will help soothe itchy dry scalps and help prevent it from getting irritated. While I'm not a doctor or dermatologist, if it looks questionable I suggest going to get it checked out by one or both of those providers. Some salons may offer scalp treatments, scalp massages, and/or shampoo specifically for the scalp. Make sure to ask your stylist if they offer these services and products!
*Less Shampooing- More CoWash CoWash helps to move the dirt and buildup down the hair shaft. Less build up of dead skin around the hair follicle will help your curls/coils sit bouncier. It really helps to soothe your scalp, nourish your hair, and gives a beautiful shine to the hair. CoWash doesn't suds up like shampoo because it's not a shampoo. Make sure you drench your head so it's sopping wet, and apply at the roots only. Give yourself your best "hairstylist shampoo" ever! I know it'll feel amazing <3
